Diffusion vs. Flow in organ on a chip

It is easy to confuse diffusion with flow. In simple terms:

Diffusion: due to a concentration gradient of a solute, molecules move in the medium from a higher to lower concentration.

Flow: Due to a pressure gradient in the medium, the medium itself moves from a higher to a lower pressure and takes the molecules with it.

Flow is a faster means for transport of molecules compared to diffusion.
